Saturday September 8th 2001 - A date in history
This was an historic day for all concerned at Deri Broncos RFC.
It saw the Broncos play their first ever game in the Welsh National Leagues against Baglan RFC, and it is the reward for many people over a number of years. These people both past and present have worked very hard; sometimes alone, in the quest to bring full WRU membership and National league rugby to Deri RFC.
A special thank you to all those concerned, both past and present
We are known as the Deri Broncos, and will again be playing in Division 5 South East for the season 2008/09, after finishing close to the top last year the club are hoping for another successful season.
The Broncos have
a new director of
Mark Pugh will
again be assisted by Andrew Thomas in the senior setup.
Fixtures
The Broncos are home
to Hirwaun on Saturday February 28th and hope to continue with
improved performances to the end of season. The Broncos were lacking enthusiasm
against both Old Pens and Cowbridge and were rewarded withlosses against better
teams on the day. The Broncos rekindled their season with a hard fought win
over Pontyclub.
The Broncos 2nd
XV played in a hard physical match against old adversaries Blaenavon Forgeside
in a club game, and were rewarded with a win of 17 – 5. The game was
nearly all the Broncos for the first half and all the Forgeside for the second.
Resolute defence kept Forgeside from scoring and credit must be given to all
the players from both sides in an entertaining match for players and spectators
alike.
The Deri RFC
Broncos would like to thank all those people who give up their spare time to
help the Rugby club in all ways, Whether it be as a supporter, sponsor, behind
the bar, helping out for food preparation, raffles or disco it is much
appreciated by all at the club.
